Rapid Visual Flow: How Fast Is Too Fast?

چکیده
It is becoming increasingly common for user interfaces to use zooming visual effects that automatically adapt to user actions. The MacOs X ‘dock’ icon panel, for instance, uses a fisheye distortion to assist users in targeting items. Another example is ‘speed-dependent automatic zooming’, which has been shown to improve scrolling by automatically varying zoom level with scroll speed—when scrolling fast the document is zoomed out, but when scrolling slowly the document is fully zoomed in. When implementing automatic zooming interfaces, designers must calibrate the behaviour of their zooming systems so that the visual effects allow rapid navigation without stressing the human visual system. At present, these calibrations are derived from trial and error. This paper describes an attempt to determine metrics of visual flow to answer the question “how fast is too fast”? Our main focus is on automatic zooming in document scrolling tasks. We performed an experiment to measure participants’ preferred and maximum-tolerable scrolling speeds at two different magnifications. We found that magnification affected the length of time that data needed to remain on screen. We also used the data to provide estimations regarding the appropriate calibration of threshold values in speeddependent automatic zooming systems.

Very Fast Load Flow Calculation Using Fast-Decoupled Reactive Power Compensation Method for Radial Active Distribution Networks in Smart Grid Environment Based on Zooming Algorithm
Distribution load flow (DLF) calculation is one of the most important tools in distribution networks. DLF tools must be able to perform fast calculations in real-time studies at the presence of distributed generators (DGs) in a smart grid environment even in conditions of change in the network topology. In this paper, a new method for DLF in radial active distribution networks is proposed. The ...

Introduction: (S)- 3,5-Dihydroxyphenylglycine (DHPG) is an agonist for group I metabotropic glutamate receptors. DHPG-induced synaptic depression of excitatory synapses on hippocampal pyramidal neurons is well known model for synaptic plasticity studies. The aim of the present study was to examine the effects of DHPG superfusion on excitatory synapses on pyramidal and fast-spiking GABAergic cel...
متن کاملEstimation of Plunge Value in Single- or Multi-Layered Anisotropic Media Using Analysis of Fast Polarization Direction of Shear Waves
Estimation of the fast polarization direction of shear seismic waves that deviate from horizontal axis is a valuable approach to investigate the characteristics of the lower crust and uppermost mantle structures. The lattice preferred orientation of crystals, which is generally parallel to the downward or upward flow of the mantle or crust, is an important reason for the occurrence of fast axis...

BigData, defined as structured and unstructured data containing images, videos, texts, audio and other forms of data collected from multiple datasets, is too big, too complex and moves too fast to analyze using traditional methods. This has given rise to a few issues that must be addressed; 1) how to analyze BigData across multiple datasets, 2) how to classify the different data forms, 3) how t...
متن کاملFast Voltage and Power Flow Contingency Ranking Using Enhanced Radial Basis Function Neural Network
Deregulation of power system in recent years has changed static security assessment to the major concerns for which fast and accurate evaluation methodology is needed. Contingencies related to voltage violations and power line overloading have been responsible for power system collapse. This paper presents an enhanced radial basis function neural network (RBFNN) approach for on-line ranking of ...
